Today, we celebrate the 9th anniversary of the decriminalisation of Article 171 on “Crimes Against the Rules of Nature” in ‘penal code’ in the northern part of Cyprus which was abolished on 27th January 2014. As LGBTI+’s, we say “LOVE is more EQUAL, more FREE for 9 Years!” in spite of those who see our existence as a threat.
Today marks the 9th anniversary of the decriminalization of intimate and consensual sexual relations between same-sex adults in the northern part of Cyprus under the name of ‘Crimes Against the Rules of Nature’. With the amendment of the law, an important step was taken to question prejudices against gay, bisexual and transgender people and not to leave people subject to hate crimes, police abuse, torture and domestic violence.
