Queer Cyprus Association strongly condemns the 2023 Anti-Homosexuality Bill recently passed by the Ugandan government

The Queer Cyprus Association strongly condemns the 2023 Anti-Homosexuality Bill recently passed by the Ugandan government. This bill not only perpetuates discrimination and stigma against LGBTI+s but also encourages violence and abuse towards them. It further reinforces the inaccurate and harmful notion that being LGBTI+ is unnatural, immoral, and based on personal choice, an assumption that has been strongly refuted by research.
The passage of this bill has devastating consequences for the LGBTI+’s residing in Uganda, where they already face discrimination, violence, and persecution on a daily basis. This bill will further isolate and marginalize LGBTI+’s, and deny them access to healthcare, education, and employment opportunities.
We call on the Ugandan government to repeal this inhumane bill to protect and respect the fundamental human rights of ALL individuals, regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identity. We stand in solidarity with the LGBTI+ community in Uganda, and the Ugandan LGBTI+’s residing in Cyprus.
Every day of the week, between 10:00 and 22:00, you can reach out to the Queer Cyprus Association support line and receive psychological, legal, and social support.
