Commit Project, funded by the European Union under “Together Against Human Trafficking in Human Beings” implemented by Refugee Rights Association in partnership with Cyprus Turkish Bar Association, Famagusta Youth Centre Association, Nicosia Turkish Municipality, Queer Cyprus Association, Turkish Cypriot Human Rights Foundation, Turkish Cypriot Journalists Association and associated by SOS Children’s Village Association, had a fruitful meeting with the head of Legal and Political Affairs and Foreign Relations Committee Oğuzhan Hasipoğlu and Committee members Doğuş Derya, Erek Çağatay, Yasemin Öztürk and Hasan Büyükoğlu. the Project Coordinator of “LGBTI+ in Freedom From Exploitation Life Project”, Doğukan Gümüşatam also attend the meeting.
During the meeting we have delivered our opinion that amendment proposal that would allow human trafficking to be a part of local legal text should be put into the agenda of the Committee immediately. Committee members promised that the proposal would be discussed again and they will be assessing it. If this proposal is accepted, human trafficking will be accepted as a crime and the current impunity will end.
