7 April World Health Day
Today is 7 April World Health Day. Health is defined as a “state of complete of mind, body and social well-being”. As LGBTI +’s, whose access to health rights has been restricted, we would like to remind that access to equal rights in health regardless of language, religion, race, age, nationality, sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression is the most basic right of people…
According to European patient rights regulation; the main rights are the right to information, which are the most basic rights of all those specified in the right to access and receive accurate information, the right to privacy, which the right to receive treatment and counseling without disclosure and having to open, the right to informed consent, which is the right that no intervention can be made to the person without their consent. Other rights we need to know are; we have the right to personal treatment, the right to free choice, the right to safety, the right to respect the patient’s time, the right to maintain quality standards, the right to innovation, the right to prevent unnecessary suffering, and the right to complain. We as LGBTI+’s are often forced to give up from these rights and we are deprived of treatment. Our hopes are that everybody can benefit from all these rights equally and fairly without being marginalized and discriminated against. If you have questions about access to health rights, you can reach us from 10:00 to 22:00 through the solidarity line of the Queer Cyprus Association.
Last but not least, we would like to thank the healthcare professionals working tirelessly since the outbreak began in the northern part of Cyprus …
