As Queer Cyprus Association, we celebrate all LGBTI+’s May 1st World Labor Day. Lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, intersex and plus (+) laborers do EXIST! The labor market researches of LGBTI+’s we have conducted in the past years have repeatedly shown us that LGBTI+’s on the basis of sexual orientation and gender identity could not reflect their full potential in the workplace and were subjected to various bullying such as disclosure and dismissal. As Queer Cyprus Association, we know that many LGBTI+ people still face such discrimination in the workplace and try to address it. More equal, non-exploitative, LGBTI+ inclusive workplaces are the most fundamental right of everyone. We invite all employers and authorities, especially the Ministry of Labor and Social Security, to take steps to protect the rights of LGBTI+ workers and to make regulations to prevent discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity.
As we always emphasize, LGBTI+s do exist in schools, hospitals, cafes, municipalities, streets, parliaments and all other workplaces!
