In light of recent distressing events in Limassol, we, the collective voices of LGBTI+ organizations on the island, including Accept LGBTI , Queer Collective and Queer Cyprus feel compelled to address the rising wave of racism that has marred our community’s spirit of inclusivity and acceptance. We acknowledge and stand in solidarity with every racialized and marginalized community across the island who are enduring fascist and racist attacks that regrettably have emerged in recent years and specifically in the past few months in both sides of the divide.
These acts of hatred are not isolated incidents but rather a disturbing reflection of the growing undercurrent of racism within our society. As organizations committed to advocating for the rights and well-being of the LGBTIQ+ community, we cannot remain silent in the face of such discrimination, as it strikes at the very core of our mission to foster an environment of respect, equality, and acceptance for all individuals, regardless of their race, ethnicity, nationality, sexual orientation and gender identity.
Furthermore, we express our unwavering support for refugees and migrants who have suffered from the attacks in Limassol. We invite everyone to join us in the upcoming demonstrations.
We firmly believe that the principles of love, empathy, and solidarity should unite us as communities. It is crucial that we stand together to denounce racism and xenophobia in all their forms and work tirelessly to dismantle the divisive barriers that threaten our shared vision of an inclusive and diverse society.
In these challenging times, we recognize the ongoing work that needs to be done from our side and society’s side as a whole to ensure a more just and compassionate society for all. Together, we will stand against hatred, discrimination, and violence, and work towards a more inclusive and equitable world.
