Queer Cyprus Association Completes Empowerment and Well-being Workshops

Empowerment and well-being workshops were conducted during June to September 2024 within the scope of the Helix Project, which is funded by the European Union under the Aid Programme for the Turkish Cypriot community and implemented by the Queer Cyprus Association.

The workshops were organized to promote resilience, improve well-being, and strengthen self-expression skills for LGBTI+ activists and supporters. During the events, experts from Cyprus, Turkey, and the EU shared their experiences with participants.

The first workshop, “Introduction to Physical Theatre” held on June 3rd and led by Dutch expert Moreen Crandel, encouraged participants to explore bodily awareness and develop self-expression skills through physical theatre.

In the “Rhythm Therapy” event facilitated by Cypriot Rhythm Expert Ezgi Bertiz on July 1st, participants were provided with techniques to relax, reduce stress, and experience mental relaxation through rhythm and music-based methods.

With the participation of Can Eren and Umut Güven from Turkey, the “Sustainable Activism and Well-being” full-day event on August 3rd offered activists basic self-care strategies and focused on developing resilience and sustainable activism methods.

The “Resilience of LGBTI+ Activists” workshop on September 14th with Dr. Ksenija Joksimovic from Greece focused on equipping activists with skills to overcome social challenges and increase their resilience.

The final event of the workshop series, held on September 26th in collaboration with MAGEM in Famagusta and facilitated by Sima Osum, was a “Creative Self-Expression” workshop. It aimed to improve participants’ self-expression skills through creative arts, promoting individual authenticity and creative empowerment.

Through activities under the Helix Project, the Queer Cyprus Association aims to achieve a more resilient LGBTQ+ activism by promoting empowerment, mental well-being, and creative expression.
