Queer Cyprus is a non-profit NGO that works on changing and establishing legislation regarding any kind of discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity and creating a public opinion on the rights and the freedom of Lesbians, Gays, Bisexuals, and Transgenders in the northern part of Cyprus. Queer Cyprus Association strives for a world where no one faces discrimination based on their language, religion, race, color, sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, gender characteristics, age, and ethnicity. For this reason, QCA works on social awareness practices as well as activities that aim for LGBTI+’s access to rights on equal and fairgrounds. QCA also displays major solidarity with LGBTI+’s and allies. The QCA volunteers contribute to the activities and events that are carried out for raising a voice against homophobia, biphobia, transphobia, and interphobia in society and decrease prejudice.  

 

The required steps to take for becoming a volunteer are; filling out the volunteer application form and participating in orientation. Furthermore, people can look through the association’s teams’ activities and decide on which teams to join. 

 

When can I start to volunteer?

When you read more about the association and feel ready to get started, you can take the first steps by filling out the application form. 

 

How much time should I allocate?

As much time as you want. Being a volunteer comes with great flexibility and the option of being able to choose when you will or won’t work. You can decide on the amount of time that you will allocate in line with the working hours and days you and the team dynamic determines in the teams that you will join. 

 

What kind of activities will I need to do?

Queer Cyprus Association is a civil society movement that fundamentally aims to form a public opinion regarding Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans, and Intersex rights and freedom. When people decide to become a volunteer, they take on duties and responsibilities under the working purposes of the teams they have decided to join.

 

What will being a volunteer bring/provide me?

Volunteers can get more socialization, social support, and work experience by taking part in the activities carried out by Queer Cyprus Association. By participating in the activities and studies, and by contributing to the LGBTI+ struggle, the volunteer contributes to an equal and fair world for everyone individually within the scope of social responsibility.
